We are officially 75 years old!
While the wind was chilly, on April 23, the rain held off until the end of the ceremony celebrating the incorporation of Mount Brenton Golf Course 75 years ago.
Upwards of 50 people were on hand as Penelakut Elder Florence James, left, performed a traditional First Nations blessing of the club’s legacy flagpole.
Also in attendance were North Cowichan Mayor Rob Douglas and Chemainus Councillors Debra Toporowski and Chris Estace.
Club President Tom Andrews MCed the event, after which everyone sojourned to the clubhouse for cake and hot beverages.
The flag raisers are from left, Sue Menzies, Iain Stevenson, and LaDonna Kendall all of whom are members of the 75th committee.
The remaining members are Kath Burnell, Arden Chailler, Sandi Stevenson, Laurie Taylor, and Peter Collum.
Some of our sponsors for the 75th anniversary year are three members who wish to remain anonymous ($1500 and $250 each respectively). Royal Paving, Houle Electric, Chemainus Rotary, L&D Plumbing, Butler Concrete and Aggregate, Brett Young, and Mid-Island Co-op.
